Questions about our club

• When does the club operate?

  Most facilities are available year-round, and members are issued a code for the gate so they may visit whenever it suits. Sunbathe during the day or enjoy a relaxing spa and sauna after work.

  The large outdoor pool is heated between October and April, and is about 28°C (82°F). The outdoor hot-tub and the indoor spa are heated all year round. The sauna is available on demand - allow 40 minutes for it to reach 70°C (158°F) from cold.

  Events are held periodically throughout the year.

• Do you have open days?

  Open days are held from time to time over the summer months - check this website for details. No booking is required (the gate will be open) - just visit during an open day for a free, no-obligation tour of our facilities. If you're new to naturism, this is a great way to get an idea of the environment and meet some people.

  You can also arrange a private visit on another day by booking online or contacting us on the club cellphone.

• Is parking available?

  There is plenty of space to park within the grounds. Once inside the gate, follow the road and take the first left (before the bridge). There is visitor parking on either side of the road in this area - see the map. If you've hired a campsite or cabin, there is also room to park next to it.

• Is nudity required?

  Yes, apart from some events (such as organised dinners or cold weather), people take the opportunity to undress whenever it is sensible to do so.

  Even if you're feeling self-conscious, the best approach is just to shed your clothes and join in. Nudity is a great leveler and you'll find everyone welcoming once you're one of us. You'll be amazed at how natural it feels, and might wonder what you were worried about.

• Is food available on site?

  Generally you need to bring your own food and drink with you to the club grounds. However there are occasions when food will be sold, and dinners are held from time to time (particularly in winter months). The club facilities include a catering kitchen, a modern guest kitchen (with ovens, stoves, microwaves, etc), and several outdoor barbeques.

• Where are the nearest shops?

  The nearest dairy (convenience store) is an easy walk from the club, on the corner of Plateau Road and SH2. There is fuel and a liquor store about 3.5km (2 miles) further south on SH2. The nearest supermarket is in Upper Hutt - 6.9km (4.3 miles) away, along with shops for anything else you may require.

• Is the Wellington Naturist Club affiliated with other clubs?

  The Wellington Naturist Club (Inc.) is affliated to the New Zealand Naturist Federation (NZNF), which itself is a member of the Internation Naturist Federation (INF-FNI).

  As a member of the Wellington Naturist Club, you can request a membership card. This card gives you access (and sometimes discounts) to other clubs around New Zealand and the world.

• When was the club established?

  Percy Cousins founded the Wellington Sun Club in 1951. Initially three privately owned properties were used but later two properties were purchased at Kaitoke and Maoribank. These proved to be too small and subsequently the present 4.8 hectare (12 acre) site was purchased in 1955. In 1956 the club became an incorporated society known as the Wellington Naturist Club and Health Society Incorporated. Later this was updated to the current name of "Wellington Naturist Club Inc."
